The main purpose of root canal treatment is the cleaning, shaping, and hermetic obturation of the root canals. The aim of shaping the root canals is to create the necessary canal form to facilitate the irrigation and filling procedures. However, shaping may cause complications especially in narrow and curved canals. In recent years, rapid developments have been observed in root canal shaping with the developments in nickel-titanium alloys and the introduction of new Ni-Ti rotary instrument systems. These developments have allowed us to make faster and more effective shaping that protects the integrity of the root canal with less procedural errors. Root canal filling, along with shaping, plays a significant role in the success of the canal treatment. During the root canal filling, anatomical challenges such as C-canals and isthmuses may complicate ideal canal obturation. In such cases, it is known that when thermoplastic techniques are used the root canal system can be filled three-dimensionally, more quickly and effectively than lateral or vertical compaction techniques.
The aim of this course is to offer participants hands-on practice in shaping curved tooth models utilizing contemporary Ni-Ti instrumentation and in root canal obturation employing thermoplastic techniques. This practical training is intended to provide participants with the necessary experience to effectively manage potential complications that may arise during these procedures.Dr. Selçuk Gökyay completed his undergraduate and doctoral education at Istanbul University Faculty of Dentistry. Dr. Selçuk Gökyay currently works as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Endodontics at Istanbul University Faculty of Dentistry. Dr. Gökyay's areas of interest include canal obturation techniques in endodontics, Ni-Ti systems, and artificial intelligence. He has various publications and projects in these fields. He is married and has two children.

The integration of biologically active materials into clinical practice has opened the door to a new generation of treatment options in endodontics. Advances in disciplines such as tissue engineering, materials science, and cell biology have not only enabled the clinical application of biological therapies, but have also triggered a philosophical and technical transformation in dentistry. Bio-minimal approaches offer a less invasive and more tissue-friendly alternative to conventional endodontics, while regenerative endodontic treatments, vital pulp therapies, and biological disinfection techniques stand at the core of this transformation. Biologically based materials—such as hydraulic calcium silicate cements—have significantly influenced clinical decision-making and treatment outcomes. Supported by new-generation rotary instruments and biologically driven irrigation techniques, these approaches are reshaping the fundamental principles of endodontic treatment.
This course will comprehensively cover the clinical steps and materials involved in biologically based endodontic treatments for both vital and non-vital teeth, reinforced by hands-on practice. Participants will have the opportunity to evaluate the advantages of bio-efficient materials through case discussions and current literature, as well as perform applications on dental models. The aim of this course is to demonstrate how contemporary biomimetic strategies can be integrated into clinical workflows and how biological healing processes can be optimized—offering a broad perspective on the clinical value of the bio-minimal approach in endodontic practice.
